Nikki & Peter

The Love Story

Peter and I first met through Facebook where I added him after having a look through his profile. Peter made the first contact which sparked a very long conversation. We exchanged numbers, where we then learnt that we lived quite close to each other so we decided to catch up at our local park with our dogs and the rest is history!

The Proposal

We decided to go to Bali for 10 days in January 2017 for my birthday. We had organised to stay at a stunning resort for a few days over my birthday where Peter said he had organised a really nice dinner in celebration. Little did I know, Peter had worked alongside the resort to organise an exclusive, private dinner away from everyone in the resort which was beautifully decorated for my birthday. We let off doves, we had our own solo guitarist and enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal followed by cake. As the cake was coming over to me, Peter leant in to have a photo with me, I turned to look at him and he was on one knee where he asked me to be his wife.

The Venue

We both come from an event background, so it didn’t take us long to start the planning process of the wedding. We knew before we got engaged that we wanted a destination wedding, which we both agreed on Bali. The day after we got engaged we thought it would be a good idea to use our time wisely and start having a look at venues! We looked at one particular venue, which was everything we wanted and much more so. We could envision our dream day being there and what it would mean for us to share this amazing place with our family and closest friends. The feeling of our venue felt right from the very beginning.

The Dress

I felt there was a lot of pressure to find ‘the dress’ as in years to come you want to look back at the dress and still fall in love with it like you did when you first laid eyes on it. I was a big advocate that I needed to say the word ‘love’ when I had the dress on, I couldn’t just like a dress. I had done quite a lot of research through social media as well as on the internet to see what type of style I liked but nothing could compare to going in and actually trying on the dresses. The first shop was extremely pushy which I didn’t feel comfortable with, none of the dresses stood out for me and I did leave feeling quite disappointed. The second store I went to was Designer Bridal House. From the moment I stood inside the door I felt a sense of warmth and was greeted by the lovely Frankie who allowed me time to look around with no pressure and showed me to some of the dresses I had previously found online.

The one dress that I really liked online I thought I would leave until last to try on; the moment my legs were inside the dress and I pull it passed my knees I knew it was the one. I quickly got it zipped up and literally ran out of the change room to my mum and bridesmaids where I said:
“This is the one, I LOVE it!”

The Wedding

It is extremely hard to choose one favourite memory from the wedding as it was an absolute dream come true and it was everything I wanted! One thing I promised myself I would do was take two minutes at the reception to just sit there and take in the moment and appreciate everyone who came all the way to Bali to be there for Peter and I. I am so glad I did just that, it was such a humbling moment for me and something I will forever cherish.

Any Advice?

This is going to sound extremely cliché, but it would honestly be to not sweat the small stuff. The important thing to remember is, you’re marrying the man of your dreams surrounded by your loved ones, that’s all there is to it!
I can understand you want to have everything absolutely perfect down to a tee (which was me), but on the day there isn’t time to worry that the florist gave you the wrong colour flowers or your table runner isn’t what you chose. The only thing you need to focus on is seeing your man at the end of the aisle with a big smile on his face; that’s when you know there is nothing else that matters!
